iPads in Education

Exploring the use of iPads and mobile devices in education.

I currently hook my MacBook up to my classroom Smartboard.
Electricity cord for quickly diminishing battery life. Check.
Old Mac. Weak wireless. Cord needed. Check.
Want audio? Cord for speakers. Check.
Hard wire hook up to projector. Check.
I've got wires everywhere.
How would using the iPad ameliorate my current situation?

Hey Rafi and welcome to the site. The 10 hour battery life of the iPad certainly helps eliminate cords but that's not the real secret to its potential. I think the bigger question is not how the instructor can be helped by using an iPad but rather how it can empower your students. It is a relatively inexpensive, mobile device that allows them to connect, consume, research, share and produce all means of multimedia digital content.

It's generally perceived that the key to transforming education in the 21st century is to replace the old frontal teaching methods with practices that place the student squarely in the center of the educational process. Content delivery gives way to research, discovery and creative production. That's where the iPad and other mobile devices put their best foot forward.
