Connect with other schools that use iPads

I've had many requests from network members that would like to connect with other schools using iPads. I've put together a short Google form to help facilitate the process of connecting schools.

SIGN UP:  If you have a 1:1 iPad program at your school, please fill out the following short form to be listed on our network of schools.

I am new to this site so I hope that I am posting this in the correct place. We have just purchased 4 Bretford carts with 25 iPads each for our middle school social studies and science departments. I am looking for a protective, inexpensive case that will fit in the cart. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have looked at many vendors and know there are some great cases but trying to keep the price under $20. Is that possible?

Roger, we have had pilot programs the last two years with the iPads.  We will be rolling out a 1:1 Initiative with our sixth grade and the new iPad in the fall.  We have had very little breakage with our pilot iPads.  I believe only one throughout the whole district.  For our sixth grade 1:1 iPads, we have ordered the Otterbox case.  Because we have ordered 200 of them, we got them for $59.  They have a built in stand so it can be used portrait or landscape.  It also has a cover that goes over the screen, giving it extra protection.  Here are a couple of links:

I would like to hear about the experience that other schools using iPad2s have had with screen breakage.  One of the biggest unanticipated problems in our program is that about 25% of the iPad2s in grades 3-8 now have cracked screens after only 8+ months of use.  Students are permitted/encouraged to take their iPads home at night and on weekends.  Most breakage has been in grades 3&4 while the iPads were off campus.  We have been using CaseCrown cases because of their versatility, but we now know that they do not give the protection, especially around the corners of the iPads that is required.  Does anyone have experience with cases that are versatile in how they can be set up for use, reasonably priced, and capable of reducing the screen damage that we have experienced.  It would be great if Apple made a more rugged version for educational use.

I teach at a University in Mexico. Now we have a 1:1 Ipod touch program. We are considering moving to Ipads.

I´d really like to learn from you all.

We now have 28 IPad2s on a cart plus each of our K-5 classrooms have 2 IPad2s each. Was there a shared Google Doc of apps with reviews that was created by IPads in Education? Also, I'm finding that having the units in the classroom "on demand" is where they are being used the most. Probably the logistics of moving and checking a cart in and out deters some from integrating them into a 42 minute period. Also, having them readily available in the classroom is more conducive to meeting individual needs and small group instruction models.

Our school currently has 15 iPad 2s that live in the library and are available for classroom and individual student use in-house. Our Academic Technology Coordinator and I have been exploring the use of 1 to 1 iPads for a year through personal use, visiting a school that currently has a pilot program, keeping track of the textbook industry to see their response, and checking out apps to see how they would fit with our use of the iPads. This summer, 15 of our faculty were given iPad 2s to use and figure out how they would best be integrated into their specific curriculum. We created an in-house blog to share apps, reviews, news, etc.

New blog: Our Alaska Stories. 5th graders in North Pole, Alaska are documenting their year of teaching and learning with iPads. Some very creative teaching going on here, with lots of video showing lessons and activities.

We are considering a 1 to 1 program at our school.  currently we have a set of 6 that we are using in small groups with the Tech Integration Specialists in classrooms. I am interested in keeping in touch with others who are doing a variety of implementations of iPads from 1 to 1 to level sets to sets allocated to specific subjects.  We will be purchasing more at the end of our current school year in December.  Thanks for all the help!

I have been compiling a list in table form, with pics of apps, that may help with App purchases.  There is an iPad app page, and an iPod Touch app page.  Teachers have input information, too.
Here's my link of "tried and true" apps for both systems:

We have 12 original IPads and 14 IPad 2's with another 30 expected in. They are to be used at stations in K-5 classrooms (2 per station). I'm concerned about the cover separating from the unit easily and the overall awkward cover.
