Daniel Mueller replied to Sam Gliksman's discussion How are you funding your iPad program?
"I have seen a lot of examples of how a 1:1 program may look but those programs are in private schools.  Is there a blueprint for this in a public high school?  Any insight into getting started? "

Sounds good Dan. We're just about done with a white paper on funding, implementing and managing 1:1 programs in education. It might be a good resource for you. One of the challenges that schools face is they only plan on how they'll acquire the iPads, and don't have a purposeful plan for the ongoing management of the program into the future. The problem is, you're acquiring a device that will be obsolete in a few years and one that will endure more wear and tear than normal, being that it's a hand-held device. Schools need to come up with an ongoing "process" to ensure that they will always have up-to-date technology, and that they're not paying full-price for equipment that will depreciate to almost nothing. We've worked with several schools for example, who use grant money to make lease payments on equipment that's refreshed under a lease-base refresh program. We consult with schools to show them how a lease-based refresh model works and how much money you actually save VS paying cash. It's something we would be happy to share with you.
