iPads in Education

Innovating education with technology.

If you've ever used document cameras such as the Elmo then you know how valuable they can be in classes where the teacher wants to easily project a book, microscope, science experiment or any other physical object.

Thanks to Dean Smith for this tip on using your iPad as a document camera...

Mount your iPad on a stand such as this one and point it at the object you want to project. Connect the iPad 2 to your projector and turn on the video camera. It works.

Hello Sam!

the iPad 2 makes a great document camera indeed. As soon as the device was available I wrote an app specially designed to use the iPad as a document camera. It's name is Board Cam and allows you to draw, use pointers and stick labels over the video image. You can also record a video of whatever you do in the screen. The app has been out for a while and has evolved including other presentation tools. Currently it also allows to do the things described above over an image selected from the device's photo album and in the next release I'll include a whiteboard.

To learn more, please visit the app website at http://boardcamapp.com or its page in the App Store .

Best regards,

Juan

KenAvision has released an iPad and Android AP for their line of document cameras and digital microscopes.

This AP will share and annotae the images from their products among a classroom set of hand held devices.

The AP is FREE, BUT, it only works with KenAVision products!

I have used and can definitely recommend Board Cam. As Juan says, it allows you to mark up anything displayed through your ipad video - so you can use the iPad as a document camera and mark up the image at the same time, even allowing you to record the interactions.

I feel like I'm always finding ways that an iPad can replace and improve existing classroom technology - I definitely agree! http://wp.me/p2qsME-cE
