Scientology Online Courses HD (life changing for me)
Kindle (a must have if you have a daily commute of over an hour, pretty much any required reading is available now)
Pandora (got old for a minute but they recently added new songs and it's great again)

My favorite new iPad App for education is Atoms in Motion. It is perfect for middle school science education. It is a chemistry app that simulates atomic motion. You can easily teach the ideal gas laws and the states of matter. Pretty cool stuff.

The newest version of Puppet Pals now has an easy way to create your own puppets and backgrounds. It is amazing. I think you have to purchase the Director's Pass.

OK rethink on Talking Tom Cat, kids love it, teachers hate it. Apparently you can turn off the violence setting, you really need to do this, or Tom gets a pounding. Puppet Pals, we are taking it our iPads, it's a bit limited and doesn't really allow for creativity. It would great if they could create their own puppets.

I just tried the Voicethread app - wow. So much easier than any other way I've been recording content and getting it online (including the Voicethread website). I was even surprised how good the quality of the recording was, considering I just used the built-in iPad1 mic. Used it with 5th graders to narrate slides about the Civil Rights movement. 

We're going to use Skitch in 3rd grade math next week. Kids will measure objects in metric units, take a photo using the iPad, then in Skitch annotate the picture by indicating the object, writing the measurement, and converting to other metric units (decimal work). For enrichment, stronger students will convert to larger/smaller units (how many km in the 13 cm crayon?).

I have had fantastic results in using a combination of App's/programs to provide a seamless process for sharing documents, presentations etc to a large group of students. I have listed the App/programs below and the process below that. Let me know if you have any questions.  This process is appropriate in an environment where you may not have been able to obtain alternative sharing options due to a variety of reasons.

The App/programs are as follows;

a, Drop box http://www.dropbox.com/ipad Free (2GB) cloud storage

b, QR Stuff http://www.qrstuff.com/ Free QR code generator

c, Qrafter http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/qrafter-qr-code-reader-generator/id4... Free QR code reader

d, A document, image form, presentation that you wish to share

The first step is to place in your Drop Box "Public" folder the item that you wish to share.

Right clicking on the file will give you a drop down list, hover over the drop box icon, you now have an option in the drop down box to "Copy public link". Left click this option, now you are ready to create your QR Code.

Open up the QR Stuff program and select in step one (1) the relevant data type, in this example a website URL. Paste the URL code into the required field. Follow the remaining steps. This process works fairly smoothly. Make sure you allow sufficient time for the code to be generated before downloading. If you do this before the QR Code Preview has updated, you will receive an error report. You can now copy and paste your QR code into any format you like. I have been embedding these into a keynote presentations. Once up on the screen the whole class can capture the QR code with the Qrafter App.

Although the process may seem overly complex, I have found that the response from students is very positive. The process from a student's perspective is of a seamless and hassle free process. I have also had a great response trainers in utilising this process. I hope it works just as well for you.

I am looking for an app that will allow me to control my iMac screen from an iPad. I think this could be a great benefit for teaching with a smartboard and being able to roam around the class and have students add input from their seat. Any ideas?

ROVER, a free app sponsored by Discovery Education, allows users to access sites that use Flash based resources.  Once Rover is downloaded, just open the app, type the URL of the site and it will open within the Rover app.  www.Starfall.com is a site our elementary teachers use quite often with Rover, and www.livingroomcandidate.org is a site our civics teachers use with Rover.    It has been very helpful for teachers and students to use the app to access sites that use Flash.

The eNotebook app allows students of all grades (K - 12 and college) to import a teacher's DOC, PPT, and PDF files and then annotate on top of them.  The downloaded documents and handwritten notes are stored in separate folders within individual enotebooks.  Here is a link to it in iTunes:
