iPhoto help-filling up hard drive

We have 30 ipads syncing to one computer. Our kids use them for photos all the time, has anyone found a better way to hold the photos?

I would like to keep them for the year then trash them-but that fills up the macair too quickly.

Other then syncing, then moving them one at a time to a external hard drive-which takes individual time and defeats the purpose of the cart we bought.

Suggestions?
