Exploring the use of iPads and mobile devices in education.

iPad liability

We are looking into trying an iPad pilot in one of our 9th grade geometry classes. We would purchase iPads for one class of students and they would use them in class and take them home. I know some of you are trying out similar projects. I am very interested in hearing how things are going and particularly about how you have handled liability issues.

What have you done about liability in case of loss, damage or theft?

Do you have a contract for parents and students to sign?

If so, could you share a copy?

Have any parents refused to sign it because they can't afford the liability?

We began a very ambitious iPad pilot program in several areas of out district. The first item on out agenda had to do with developing documents to ensure safety all around. We do have a contract, we met with parents, we had parents and students sign the contracts. As far as filtering content, that was a high priority. Unfortunately, there aren't many options for us. We are using an app called Mobicip for content filtering.
