Exploring the use of iPads and mobile devices in education.
(Cross posted in TICL Ning Discussion)
Hello,
We are about to embark on a 6th grade 1 to 1 iPad initiative in our school. Along with the many other things our students will be doing with their iPads, we want them to read as much as possible on them instead of handing out paperbacks of the novels they are reading in class.
I'm wondering how other schools are acquiring and managing the books?
Can a system be set up to "lend" ebooks from the school library and then "collect" them once the unit is over so as not to need to purchase as many? Similar to the public library?
Is there a prefered ereader app and/or a seller that has educational discounts? I've used both Kindle and Nook for reading on my personal iPad/iPhone and both seem to work well.
We don't need the kids reading "extra" books on the iPads, but do want them to be able to read assigned books on them.
Beyond my questions here, are there other questions we need to take into consideration or information you can provide on this topic?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
