Innovating education with technology.
We have a 1000 ipad rollout going on and we are finding especially with our Middle Schoolers that the kids are having a hayday with Google Images. We have a LightSpeed web filter on but some of these images are still pretty inappropriate for school. What are other schools doing to solve this?
Well, I should preface my comments by saying that I'd vote for education about appropriate use over "censorship" and there's usually some way around most blocks that are put in place. Having said that, some schools block the use of Safari (under Restrictions) and replace it with a filtered browser such as the K9 browser app. I haven't used it however I've had feedback from a couple of schools that the filtering tends to lean too far the other way and it can be difficult to find good quality images and content on occasion.
Have you heard anything about safesearchkids.com?
It's just the same as using Safe Search on Google. Not sure how you could ensure its use on a tablet.
